Our smartphones are becoming increasingly capable of taking photos and videos, but sometimes it could always use a little help with some accessories that will take it to the next level. Enter the Glif, a Kickstarter project for a smartphone tripod mount that will be able to turn your smartphone in an actual proper recording device.

If you’re wondering about the name and why it sounds familiar, it is because several years ago its creators made a similar tripod mount, except that it was designed for the iPhone 4 in mind, so basically the version of Kickstarter right now is the latest iteration that based on its design, won’t be limited to just the iPhone as it is essentially a clamp that we reckon should play nicely with pretty much any smartphone.

So like we said, the Glif is a tripod mount for smartphones, but it is more. It has a handle that lets you hold the phone more ergonomically and to a certain extent, provides a bit of stability as well. There are extra mounts that allows users to attach a variety of accessories to it, like an external flash unit for brighter and more powerful flash, or a microphone holder where you could put a boom mic on it for better audio recording.

We suppose the Glif is aimed more at users who might need such features when recording with their phone, and if you think that describes you perfectly, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.
