Twitter Reportedly Interested In Streaming NBA & MLS

twitter nflTwitter is a social media website and for the longest time ever, allowed users to post little statuses which some have dubbed micro-blogging. However as time passed on, the social media platform had to adapt, like its competitor Facebook, to offer up more reasons to use its service and to stay on as a user.

We’ve seen the company launch tools like Periscope, and now it looks like streaming sports is something Twitter is very interested in as well. A report from Recode has indicated that Twitter is reportedly in talks with cable network Turner, NBA, and MLS (Major League Soccer) to gain the rights to stream some of their sports-related content.

Twitter’s relationship with sports isn’t new. Earlier this year, the social media platform announced that they had struck a deal with the NFL to stream some of its Thursday Night Football games, so it is possible that this rumored deal that they’re trying to work with Turner could result in a similar experience.

It seems that Twitter might have actually hinted at their plans earlier this year. Speaking to Recode back in April, Twitter CFO Anthony Noto was quoted as saying, “We’re not just talking to the leagues, we’re also talking to the broadcast partners of the leagues and the cable network partners of the leagues.” In any case since nothing has materialized yet, it is unclear if Twitter has been successful with their negotiations, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.
