Parrot’s Bebop 2 drone was announced last year and it did come with some pretty decent features. However if you thought that was all there was to the drone, you would be wrong as the folks at Parrot have since announced that they will be adding a “Follow me” feature to the drone, which as the name suggests will let the drone track your movements and fly alongside you.

According to Parrot, “With follow me tracking modes, capture some of your best moments thanks to state-of-the-art visual recognition and smartphone GPS tracking technology. This technology allows your drone to accurately adjust its position in real time so that you are always in the shot.”

Parrot is also boasting that its tracking will allow for “Precise framing via visual recognition”, GPS horizontal positioning, as well as altimeter vertical tracking that will work on smartphones that has a barometer sensor built into it. Parrot even has a list of compatible devices that will support the feature.

Unfortunately it seems that if you want the privilege of having a drone follow you about as you run, walk, sail, bike, etc., you’ll have to pay for it. “Follow me” is an in-app purchase for the FreeFlight Pro app (not so “free” after all) that will set you back $20, although there is a 15-day trial that you can check out before committing to it. The feature is also limited to iOS devices for now, but presumably support for Android will be coming later.
