One of the problems with using online services is that usually you’ll have to sign up for a new account. This is why single sign-on options like using your Facebook or Google credentials can save you a lot of time, but what if you’d rather not link your Facebook or Google accounts with certain apps or services?

Facebook did away with the need for an account for Messenger, and the good news for those who might need to use Skype every now and then is that Microsoft has announced that starting from today onwards, users will no longer need a Skype/Microsoft account to use the service. All they have to do is head on over to Skype’s website and join as a Guest. They’ll get to pick their own name and also participate in all of Skype’s features like voice and video calls.

However the only downside here is that your conversations will only last for 24 hours, meaning that if you wanted to maintain a chat history you’ll have to find some way of downloading the logs manually. We suppose this might be useful for people who only need Skype for certain events, so instead of having to juggle more accounts and passwords to remember, this will let them hop in and out of the app without much fuss.

Like we said, the feature is now live so head on over to Skype’s website if you’d like to take it for a spin.
