WhatsApp conversations on iOS just got a whole lot better. The Facebook-owned cross-platform messaging service has flipped the switch on GIF support in the iOS app. This means that users on iOS can easily send and receive GIFs in WhatsApp chats. The update also enables users to send Live Photos as well as shorter videos and both of them can be converted into GIFs as well.

GIF support is present in almost every other major messaging app so WhatsApp users will certainly be happy that they now have this functionality on iOS. Sending GIFs in a conversation just elevates it to an entirely different level as it’s a really fun way to interact with the people you car about.

Aside from GIF support, the updated WhatsApp for iOS allows users to send short videos as GIFs but they can only be six seconds or less. They can also send a Live Photo as a GIF by using 3D Touch from the Attach interface. They just have to choose the Select as GIF option then when picking out which Live Photo to share from the Photo Library.

WhatsApp for iOS also gets an integrated GIF search engine that’s powered by Tenor. It provides access to countless GIFs and you can also mark your favorite ones that you tend to use frequently. It’s even possible to edit GIFs with text and emoji.

These features are yet to arrive on the WhatsApp for Android app but it’s quite likely that they will in the near future.
