One of the controversial moves Apple made last year was by removing all of the ports on the 12-inch MacBook and replacing it with a single USB-C port. Thankfully for this year’s MacBook Pro, Apple decided to give us four USB-C ports which should make things a little bit easier, although not by much.

If you still own a ton of legacy accessories that still connect via traditional USB 3.0 ports, this can be a problem, but not to worry as a Kickstarter project for a device called the HyperDrive will fix that. The HyperDrive is essentially a USB-C hub for the MacBook Pro. It plugs into the side of your laptop and will take up both USB-C ports.

However in return it will also provide users with access to other ports such as HDMI, USB 3.1 x 2, microSD/SD, as well as Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C for charging and plugging in other newer accessories. The HyperDrive is definitely not the first USB-C hub we’ve seen designed for the MacBook Pro, so you can think of it as being one of the options available out there if you are shopping about.

Just like with other USB-C hubs, the HyperDrive is small and slim which makes it easy to be brought around when you need it. If you are interested in helping making the HyperDrive a reality, then you’ll want to pledge to its Kickstarter campaign.
