A couple of days ago, SwiftKey announced that starting this December, all of their Premium keyboard themes will be going free. For those that weren’t keeping track of this, you’ll be pleased to learn that you can fire up SwiftKey and start getting your hands on those premium themes for free.
Note that this applies to both iOS and Android versions of SwiftKey, so users from either platform will be able to get in on this. There will be more than 100 free themes that users will now be able to access to and customize their on-screen keyboard to their liking. There will also be a new and exclusive theme for users who have previously supported SwiftKey by purchasing a theme or a pack from the store.
It is unclear why SwiftKey has gone free or if there are any plans for alternative monetization options in the future, but perhaps this could be one of Microsoft’s strategies. In case you didn’t know, SwiftKey has been acquired by Microsoft. The deal was closed earlier this year where it was estimated that Microsoft had paid a cool $250 million for the company.
In any case the changes should already be live, so just fire up the keyboard, head on over to the SwiftKey Store and you’ll find that everything is pretty much marked as free.
