Samsung passed on the Mobile World Congress 2017 stage to unveil the Galaxy S8 but LG made full use of it and launched its next flagship smartphone. LG has already released the G6 in South Korea and initial reports suggest that the handset is off to a good start. It appears that the performance of its competitor’s new flagship has got Samsung concerned as it has aired a Galaxy S8 in South Korea to hype up the impending launch.

Local media reports suggest that LG received more than 40,000 pre-orders for the G6. Moreover, on the first day of retail availability, the handset is reported to have sold more than 20,000 units. If the numbers are true, it would mean that LG G6 sold almost double and quadruple the units that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy A5 sold respectively after launch.

Industry analysts are of the view that Samsung is running this ad to remind potential customers that this year’s biggest Android flagship smartphone is going to be unveiled soon. It’s a way of telling them that they should probably wait and see what Samsung has to unveil at the end of the month before they decide to spend their money on its competitor’s flagship.

Whether or not the ad achieves the intended objective remains to be seen but it goes without saying that LG is enjoying a very good response for its new flagship.
