Just a few weeks ago we spotted a Verizon variant of the Samsung Gear S3 frontier smartwatch at the Federal Communications Commission. It was bearing model number SM-R765V. While we still await more information about that particular model of the smartwatch, it appears that a Verizon variant of the Gear S3 classic smartwatch with model number SM-R775V has now landed at the FCC for the required certification.

There might be more than meets the eye here, though, given that Samsung has only really offered cellular connectivity with the Gear S3 frontier. While both smartwatches cost the same, the cellular connectivity is limited to the frontier model.

The FCC filing shows that this particular variant of the Gear S3 classic has support for LTE aside from Bluetooth and WAN so it may very well be possible that the company has created a variant just for Verizon that’s capable of working on its cellular network as well. Samsung did launch a Gear S3 classic with LTE connectivity in South Korea so perhaps it’s going to do the same in the United States as well.

Samsung and Verizon have not yet provided any clarity on this matter so it remains to be seen if and when this LTE-capable Gear S3 classic will be launched on the largest mobile network in the United States.
