The beloved Terminator franchise may not be over. Even though the last addition to the franchise, 2015’s Terminator: Genisys, failed to impress, it appears that there may be life yet for the Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the original lead, has said that there’s going to be a new Terminator movie and that “I will be in the movie.” That’s enough to capture fans’ attention.

Talking to Screen Daily from the Cannes Film Festival, Schwarzenegger revealed that he has met with acclaimed director James Cameron. He was the one who created this franchise and also directed the first two movies.

“It is back,” Schwarzenegger said of the franchise, adding that things are now moving forward and that Cameron has some good ideas on how to take things forward. He also confirmed that he’s going to star in the movie.

Since the rights to the entire franchise are going to revert back to James Cameron in 2019, the comments that Schwarzenegger has made suggest that Cameron may very well return to the director’s chair and take this franchise forward.

Whether or not he will be able to juggle the responsibility at a time when the Avatar sequels have got him pretty busy already remains to be seen.

Schwarzenegger didn’t say when we can expect the new movie in the Terminator franchise to arrive so it could be a while before we find out more information about the project.
