For the longest time ever, Nintendo has pretty much stubborn about releasing games for mobile. However they later relented and we even saw Mario finally and officially make its way onto mobile devices in the form of Super Mario Run. Now it seems that we could be close to getting another beloved Nintendo franchise on our phones.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal, word on the street has it that Nintendo is working on a smartphone game based on The Legend of Zelda franchise. The game, if it is indeed in the works, will be released following the mobile version of Animal Crossing which could be coming later this year.

Unfortunately details about the game are a bit scarce, but if this is true it could be rather huge news for the company. It is possible that we could learn more about it at E3 but we’ll just have to wait and see. That being said, fans should also be a little wary. While Super Mario Run represented a huge step forwards for Nintendo, the title wasn’t exactly very well-received and the one-time fee to unlock the game was considered by many to be rather steep at $10.

We’re not sure what kind of pricing model Nintendo might adopt for the rumored Zelda mobile title, but hopefully the company has learnt from some of their earlier mistakes. Until then we suggest you take this with a grain of salt.
