The Nintendo Switch is selling pretty well and with hit titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it isn’t as if the console is short on big games. In fact there are still quite a few big hitters that have yet to be released, but then again the more titles that are available, the better, right?

For fans of Final Fantasy, it seems that you could be in luck as Square Enix has revealed that they are in discussions with Nintendo and Microsoft about bringing Final Fantasy XIV onto the Switch and the Xbox One, as per an interview with Finder, although gamers probably shouldn’t hold their breath as it seems that this could take a while, and might not necessarily go through.

According to the game’s director Naoki Yoshida, he stated that the developer wants as many players to join Final Fantasy XIV as possible, which is why they have elected to speak to Nintendo and Microsoft. However he adds, “We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations. We believe these conversations will take a long time.”

This is actually not the first time that Square Enix has expressed their interest in the Nintendo Switch. Back in April the company promised that they would be “fully supporting” the console in terms of game releases, so here’s hoping that Final Fantasy XIV will find its way onto the platform in the future.
