Wireless charging isn’t new, but it has always been a feature missing from Apple’s iPhone, or at least not in an official capacity. However one of the popular iPhone 8 rumors is that Apple could finally introduce the feature to the lineup, and maybe even improve on it without the need to charge via a charging mat/surface.

Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but in a photo uploaded onto Slashleaks (via AppleInsider), it allegedly shows off a wireless charging coil that supposedly belongs to that of the iPhone 8, thus “confirming” the feature in the process. What makes this particular component more believable is the socket end which appears to be for Lightning.

Exactly how Apple’s rumored wireless charging will work remains to be seen. Some are claiming that Apple could have figured out “real” wireless charging where you don’t need a charging mat like the current solutions in the market. However others are claiming that it will be the same, and that it might also require that users own a separate accessory to facilitate it.

Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully in the next month or two we should have all the official details.
