From what we’ve seen, video games that are adapted into movies rarely do well. In fact there have been many instances in which fans have been left massively disappointed, but it hasn’t stopped movie studios from trying. In fact it looks like we could be getting a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the future as it appears that Paramount Pictures has recently landed the rights to the movie.

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount recently managed to get the rights to the movie which was previously in development at Sony Entertainment. The movie will be led by Neal H. Moritz and it will also see Deadpool’s director Tim Miller as the film’s executive producer, while Jeff Fowler will be making his directorial debut with the film.

As to what the movie will be about remains to be seen, like whether it will be an origins story, or if moviegoers are already expected to know who Sonic is and will be thrust into a brand new story. Like we said, video game movie adaptations have never panned out well in the past, so you can forgive our skepticism.

As it stands there is still no date on when the movie will be released, but SEGA has been trying to reignite interest in the franchise with new Sonic video game titles.
