Dropping your camera and breaking it is a pain that photographers will no doubt try their best to avoid, which is why there are cases that are designed to protect cameras from drops, and also why many professionals purchase insurance for their equipment. Now it looks like GoPro will also offer similar protection to its customers via the Plus service.

GoPro’s Plus subscription service has existed for a while now, but for the most part it has acted as a backup service for your photos and videos. However it seems that GoPro has decided to improve on the service by adding camera replacement as one of its features. What this means is that if you break your camera, GoPro will replace for you, no questions asked.

However it should be noted that the device replacement will be limited to two replacements in 12 months, meaning that if for whatever reason you break your camera the third time within the span of a year, the third replacement/repair is on you. It will also not be completely free, but instead the replacement will be charged at 20% of the camera’s original price, which we guess is still much cheaper buying a new one on its own, and potentially cheaper than repairing it.

In addition to device replacement, the new GoPro Plus plan will include mobile cloud backup, unlimited photo storage, 35 hours worth of video storage, 20% off GoPro accessories via the official online store, and priority phone and chat support. The service will be maintained at $5 a month with a free 30-day trial.
