A recent survey conducted during the Game Developers Conference has found that there is an increasing number of developers who are interested in developing virtual reality titles (VR). According to the survey, interest in VR is said to be at 33%, putting it fourth in terms of platforms that interest developers the most.

Based on this, VR is only behind the likes of PC which is at 59%, the PS4/Pro at 39%, and the Nintendo Switch at 36%. In fact interest in VR seems to put it above other platforms like the Xbox One/Xbox One X and even mobile. It also places it above the likes of AR headsets, Mac, tabletop games, and web browser titles.

However we should point out that this is merely interest in a particular platform, which means that whether or not developers follow through with their plans to make VR titles is an entirely different story. It also doesn’t take into account aspects like marketability. However the interest is rather telling, especially when other companies seem to be pushing for augmented reality.

For example companies like Apple are making a bigger push into AR tech, introducing the feature to their iPhones, launching ARKit and working with companies to develop AR apps, and there are rumors of an Apple AR headset in the works as well. Either way only time will tell as to whether or not VR will become a huge thing, but for now we suppose the interest expressed in it is encouraging.
