One of the features of Facebook Messenger are its sticker packs. These are basically emojis that have been supersized and are more expressive and fun, and it is also a feature that we’ve seen other chat apps like LINE and KakaoTalk use to great effect. Now it seems that the feature could be coming to WhatsApp.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, it appears that in the latest beta for WhatsApp, the company has added its own Sticker Packs Store. Basically this is a storefront where users will be able to browse different stickers and add them to their list, and from there they’ll be able to use it with their chats just like in Messenger.

It is unclear if these stickers will come in paid and free versions, or if they will just be free completely. What we’ve seen other apps do, such as LINE, is charge users for certain sticker packs. We’ve also seen them collaborate with celebrities and movies to create exclusive stickers that are valid for a limited time.

At this point in time it is unclear if the WhatsApp stickers will function like LINE where they can appear as suggestions as you type out certain words or phrases, or if they have to be inserted manually. It is also unknown if they will make it in the next public release of WhatsApp, but we’ll keep an eye out for it all the same.
