Fans of the X-Men franchise are probably well aware that the folks at Fox have a couple of new X-Men movies in the works. One of those movies is Dark Phoenix which will be based on Jean Grey’s firebird spirit, while the other is New Mutants which while based on the X-Men franchise, has been billed as more of a horror movie of sorts.

Both movies were originally scheduled to be launched this year, but now according to reports, both movies have since been pushed to 2019. Dark Phoenix did not have a release date for 2018 except for later in the year, but it is now scheduled to be released in February 2019. As for New Mutants, the movie was originally scheduled for April 2018 but will now be postponed to August 2019, a delay of sixteen months.

Speaking to The Playlist in an interview earlier this month, New Mutants’ actress Anya Taylor-Joy expressed her disappointment with the delays. “The only thing that I could say, without being in trouble, is that it being delayed is disappointing, frustrating in fact, because we were all very excited for it to be released on April 13. I don’t mean just disappointing for me, but I’m sure there are a lot of other fans that were looking forward to seeing it.”

As to the reason behind the delays, it is said that this is due to reshoots. In the case of New Mutants, it will also introduce an additional character to the movie. Admittedly it is a bit disappointing, but hopefully the reshoots are for the better. In the meantime many are wondering with Disney’s impending acquisition of Fox, what will happen to the current X-Men movies.

We know that Disney plans on folding the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but whether or not they’ll be keeping the same cast around remains to be seen.
