One of the advantages of Netflix is being able to enjoy TV shows and movies in the comfort of your own home. Granted it lacks a certain “magic” that comes from going to the theater, but like we said there is the advantage of enjoying it in your own home. However according to a report from the LA Times, Netflix could be thinking of buying its own theaters.

According to the report, it claims that Netflix had considered buying the Landmark Theatres co-owned by Mark Cuban. However they reportedly back out of the deal because according to sources, the sale price of the Landmark was a bit too dear for their liking. It is unclear if Netflix has since given up on their plans to buy their own theater or if they are still shopping around.

Regardless this is an interesting development if true, although a little ironic considering that even back in the day where Netflix would mail out DVDs, the entire premise of Netflix was that you could enjoy shows without having to leave your house. However it could be possible that Netflix might want their own theater so as to be eligible for an Oscar, where some claim that because Netflix movies aren’t shown on the big screen, they shouldn’t be considered for an Oscar.

Netflix had recently confirmed that they would not be attending the Cannes Film Festival as the festival had decided to ban movies from competing that do not have theatrical distribution in France. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Should Netflix have their own theaters?
