Following the success of the Wonder Woman movie, it wasn’t surprising that DC and Warner Bros. greenlit a sequel. Now given the events that happened in the first movie and also Wonder Woman’s appearance in Batman V Superman and Justice League, you might have assumed that the sequel will be based on present times.

However that is not the case because the movie’s director Patty Jenkins has recently confirmed that Wonder Woman 2 will be based in the 1980s. This announcement was made during Warner Bros.’ presentation at Cinemacon in Las Vegas. This isn’t the first time rumors of a 1980s setting has surfaced.

Last year there were already rumors suggesting that the movie could take place in the 1980s where Wonder Woman is expected to face off against the Soviets towards the end of the Cold War. We suppose this makes sense as it would provide a series of events leading up to Wonder Woman’s situation in the DCEU’s present timeline, as opposed to there being a huge gap from the first Wonder Woman movie to the second.

It has also been confirmed that Kristen Wiig will play the villain Cheetah, while Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal will also have a role in the film. Wonder Woman 2 has been confirmed for a release for the 1st of November, 2019.
