Samsung launched its new premium mid-range handset the Galaxy A8 (2018) earlier this year. Even though the handset was launched after Oreo had already been released, Samsung shipped it with Nougat out of the box. The company has since released Oreo for devices like the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8 but it’s going to be a while before many of its other compatible devices get it. Those who own a Galaxy A8 (2018) can at least find solace in the fact that Samsung has now started developing the Android 8.0 Oreo update for this handset.

According to a new report, Samsung has started developing the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy A8 (2018). That’s good news but there’s a catch. What this means is that Samsung has only just started developing Oreo for this handset which means that it’s going to take a couple of months before the Galaxy A8 (2018) gets Oreo.

Google is due to announce its next major iteration of Android next month so Oreo will certainly land on this device long after it has been confirmed what the next major update for Google’s mobile platform is all about.

Unfortunately, that’s the fragmentation issue on Android which won’t go away any time soon. It’s unclear as yet precisely when the Galaxy A8 (2018) will receive Oreo but at least we now know that things are headed in the right direction.
