Earlier this year it was reported that GoPro had put itself up for sale. It seems that the company isn’t doing so well and is looking to sell itself off. However what’s interesting is that according to a report from The Information (paywall; via Bloomberg), one potential candidate to buy GoPro comes in the form of Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi.

Xiaomi is known by many as a smartphone maker, but to be fair over in China, the company has branched out to more than just smartphones, such as drones, air purifiers, electric bikes, and so on, so for them to get into action/digital cameras wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination. However whether or not the deal with Xiaomi goes through remains to be seen, because for all we know, Xiaomi might only be window shopping.

The report goes on to state that Xiaomi has considered an offer but doesn’t want to overpay, which could suggest that Xiaomi might be interested but not to the point where they will pay too much for the company. It is unclear as to who else might be interested in GoPro, but if Xiaomi were to acquire them, it could be one way for Xiaomi to get their foot in the door in the US market, something that they’ve been working on for quite some time now.
