In 2019 we will finally be getting our conclusion to the current Avengers storyline. However there is a question that some might have, which is what will become of the franchise after Avengers 4? Marvel has made it no secret that some characters will be meeting their end, but thankfully the franchise is expected to continue.

This was revealed by Disney’s CEO Bob Iger who said, “Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude there will never be another Avengers movie.” We suppose this shouldn’t be surprising since just like the comics, the roster of Avengers does change over time, so while the early MCU characters may no longer be featured in future Avengers movies, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end of the franchise. Not to mention it does seem to be a very lucrative franchise.

At the same time, Iger also seems to be eager to develop a new franchise that isn’t the Avengers. “We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we’ve plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade. I’m guessing we will try our hand at what I’ll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see more Avengers down the road. We just haven’t made any announcements about that.”

Disney is currently in the process of trying to acquire Fox, which if successful will see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool folded into the MCU which in turn opens up the door for more possibilities, but we suppose we’ll have to wait until next year where Marvel is expected to share their plans for Phase 4 of the MCU.
