Compared to the competition, Apple’s HomePods are more expensive. They also don’t seem as robust in terms of smart features compared to the others as well, although we suppose this is more of a limitation of Siri than the speakers themselves. However Apple has always insisted that the HomePod is a speaker first, although admittedly it’s hard not to compare.

With that being said, how is the HomePod doing? Turns out it’s not doing too badly. This is according to data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners in which it has been revealed that Apple has sold 3 million HomePods in the US to date. This is a good sight more than what was reported earlier this year where Apple was estimated to have only sold 600,000 units in Q1 2018.

There have also been reports that Apple is apparently aiming to sell as many as 4 million units by the end of 2018 and based on how many they’ve sold so far, it seems that the company should have no issues hitting their target. That being said, the HomePod’s market share still pales in comparison compared to the likes of the Amazon Echo and Google Home, both of whom still make up the majority of the smart speaker market.

There are rumors that Apple could launch a cheaper HomePod later this year, and combine that with some upcoming features, such as the ability to make calls, perhaps that could fuel adoption even further.
