Apple’s decision to kill off the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone was a controversial one. The company also made waves when they launched their new MacBooks which completely did away with USB-A ports, instead only leaving behind USB-C ports. What this meant is that newer Apple customers were forced to resort to dongles and USB hubs.

Unsurprisingly and perhaps embarrassingly enough, it turns out that dongles were one of the most popular Apple products that have been sold by Best Buy in recent times. This is according to a report from Ceros (via AppleInsider) in which together with the AirPods headphones, dongles have seen an increase in purchases over the past two years.

It has been something of a running joke amongst Apple users at the amount of dongles required just to connect existing peripherals to their laptops and iPhone. We expect that these are just part of the growing pains that one would expect when it comes to adopting new technology and standards, although we’re sure that many would have preferred if Apple had at least kept some USB-A ports around to make the transition smoother.

That being said, a recent rumor has suggested that Apple may no longer bundle the 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with its upcoming iPhones, which means that either you’ll have to buy it yourself, or seek out a pair of Lightning-enabled headphones, or maybe the Bluetooth wireless AirPods could be worth considering.
