Telltale Games is a unique gaming studio in which a lot of their work seems to focus on narrative-style games. They are also known for titles such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us 2, and Stranger Things. Unfortunately it seems like the future of those titles are in jeopardy as it looks like the studio could be winding things down.

The company has confirmed that they are laying off the majority of their staff in what can only be assumed is their way of winding things down while they transition to their next phase. “Today Telltale Games made the difficult decision to begin a majority studio closure following a year marked by insurmountable challenges. A majority of the company’s employees were dismissed earlier this morning, with a small group of 25 employees staying on to fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners.”

Telltale’s co-founder and former CEO Kevin Bruner has also since responded to the news by issuing his own statement that reads, “Today, I’m mostly saddened for the people who are losing their jobs at a studio they love. And I’m also saddened at the loss of a studio that green-lit crazy ideas that no one else would consider. I’m comforted a bit knowing there are now more talented people and studios creating games in the evolving narrative genre. While I look forward to those games and new developments, and continuing to contribute,  I will always find ‘A Telltale Game’ to have been a unique offering.”

It is unclear as to what will become of the studio, but like we said, the major layoffs certainly does sound like they might be getting ready to shut down. We’re sure some are wondering about the state of current titles, but as the company’s statement reads, it seems that the remaining staff will be around to help wrap things up.
