Epic’s Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play title, although it does rely on microtransactions to earn money for its developers (which it seems to have successfully done). For the most part a lot of the in-game purchases are for cosmetic items, which Fortnite players might be pleased to learn could soon be giftable.

In a tweet by @The1Jaren (via VG247), it shows a button in the game’s menu where gamers will be able to purchase items and gift them to their friends and other players. However it is unclear as to what will be the extent of this gift giving. Presumably all cosmetics that can be purchased in-game are giftable, but whether or not this extends to Battle Passes is unclear, and it is also unclear if players will be able to gift other players V-bucks (Fortnite’s own in-game currency used to purchase in-game items).

Additional details have revealed that gifting will be limited to five items a day, which suggests that maybe the developers don’t want the system to be abused or turned into some kind of marketplace for third-party resellers. Epic has in the past touched on the topic of being able to gift friends items, and now it looks like that feature is close to launching for real. Given that Fortnite is now cross-play supported across all platforms, gift giving actually makes more sense now.
