Sonos smart speakers may get Roku voice control if a new report is to be believed. It’s said that the two companies are in “preliminary” talks about making this happen. There’s as much possibility of these talks falling through right now than there’s the chance of this actually happening.

CNET reports that Sonos and Roku are in talks to bring Roku voice control to the former’s smart speakers. The talks aren’t in an advanced stage so it’s difficult to claim if this will indeed happen. It also makes sense from them to be in a preliminary stage given that Roku’s voice assistant is yet to be released.

If this partnership does materialize, it will enable owners of Sonos smart speakers to control content on their Roku-connected TVs. The experience would be similar to using Roku’s Voice Remote but it may be more useful given that the true extent of Roku’s Entertainment Assistant’s abilities is not known.

This partnership could also make it easier to sync Sonos speakers with a Roku-connected TV. It’s not entirely clear how this would work but Sonos could integrate with the assistant and Roku Connect or both so that the devices can work together. Sonos hasn’t officially confirmed anything about its talks with Roku on this so far.
