DC announced plans for a standalone The Flash movie several years ago, and the movie has been plagued with all kinds of problems since. Not only have we seen several directors drop out, but last year it was reported that the movie would have to be rewritten from scratch, thus delaying its release even further.

For those hoping to see the movie soon, you can forget about it because in a report from Variety, it has been delayed. The report claims that Warner Bros. has pushed the start of filming where it could result in the movie being released in 2021. To be fair, Warner Bros. never formally confirmed a release date for the movie, so it wouldn’t be completely accurate to call this a “delay”.

It is unclear as to why Warner Bros. has decided to delay the start of filming, but this is clearly not good news for fans. The Flash made his debut in the Justice League movie where we got to see the character for the first time in an extended performance (versus the cameo we saw in Batman V Superman).

As Variety points out, the delay could also prove to be nightmarish for scheduling as Ezra Miller, who plays Barry Allen/The Flash, is expected to begin filming for the third Fantastic Beasts movie in July. In any case like we said, fans of The Flash will have no choice but to practice some patience. In the meantime the next DC movie we can look forward to would be Aquaman which is slated for a release later this year, and Shazam! taking place in 2019.
