In a move that’s not likely to surprise a lot of people, Netflix has confirmed that it has renewed Narcos: Mexico for a second season. It’s a follow-up to the earlier Narcos series of which Netflix made three seasons. The first season of this new series was released last month and has been well received. So it was only a matter of time before Netflix renewed it for a second season.

Narcos: Mexico focuses on a new cartel and a new drug boss. The story is based in Mexico, as the name suggests, and revolves around the empire of Félix Gallardo. Operating out of Guadalajara in the 1980s, Gallardo became one of the most powerful drug kingpins of Mexico.

The second season will obviously be taking Gallardo’s story forward after the events of the first. It remains to be seen how much of the original cast returns for the second season. There will likely be new additions to the roster as well based on how the story is to develop going forward.

Netflix hasn’t confirmed right now when it expects to release the second season of Narcos. Given that the first has only just arrived, it may take up to a year before the new season of Narcos: Mexico becomes available.
