Smartphones with dual SIM support aren’t new, and neither are eSIMs, however with the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, Apple combined them together by finally introducing iPhones with support for dual SIM, but making one of the SIM card “slots” an eSIM. So far AT&T and Verizon have launched their support for it, and now it looks like T-Mobile has done the same as well.

It seems that T-Mobile’s approach to the eSIM is similar to Verizon’s, where users can download an app to activate and manage the eSIM on their iPhones. However T-Mobile’s app does note that this does not work for locked devices, but if your phone is unlocked then you shouldn’t have an issue using it.

That being said, it should be noted that the use of a second SIM does mean that you will need a second line. However the perks of using an app like that of T-Mobile or Verizon is that you’ll be able to activate a second line through the app itself, so you get to save yourself a trip to the store.

T-Mobile’s support for the eSIM means that out of all the major carriers in the US, Sprint is the only one that has yet to offer support for it. However we imagine that with the competition already offering support, Sprint probably has plans to eventually get around to doing the same as well.
