Last week Verizon announced that they would finally be supporting eSIM, which means that iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and XR owners would finally be able to add a second line to their iPhones. However the process involved using a QR code to activate the eSIM, which while not terribly inconvenient isn’t quite as efficient as it could be.

However according to a report from AppleInsider, Verizon has recently updated its My Verizon app where the app is actually now able to activate the eSIM from within the app itself. This means that users won’t need to rely on QR codes to do so, so if you haven’t activated the eSIM yet, you can do so by getting your hands on the latest version of the My Verizon app from the App Store.

So far only Verizon has allowed its customers to activate the eSIM via an app. AT&T is still relying on codes to do so, although we wouldn’t be surprised if they were to eventually make the transition as well. As for T-Mobile and Sprint, the former has stated that they do plan to support eSIMs later this month, while Sprint has yet to officially announce or confirm anything, so for now AT&T and Verizon are the only two major carriers in the US that support it, although for the sake of competition, we imagine that T-Mobile and Sprint’s solutions probably aren’t too far behind.
