Apple References AirPower Charging Mat On Smart Battery Case Website

Many are no doubt curious to the state of Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat. Has it been cancelled? Will it see the light of day? If recent rumors are to be believed, production of the AirPower has already begun which means that we should see it soon enough. If you’re looking for more proof, Apple actually referenced it by accident on its website.

Spotted on Apple Malaysia’s website, the page for the recently announced Smart Battery Case actually made mention of the AirPower. This is because the Smart Battery Case actually supports wireless charging, meaning that when placed on a wireless charging surface, it charges both the case and phone at the same time.

The page had previously read, “The Smart Battery Case is compatible with AirPower Wireless Charging Mat and other Qi‑certified chargers. You can charge your iPhone and battery case simultaneously for increased talk time up to 26 hours, Internet use up to 22 hours on LTE, and even longer audio and video playback.”

That reference has since been removed, but the fact that it was mentioned does hint that the AirPower is still very much alive and well, or at least that’s the hope. We’re not sure when the device will be announced, but hopefully it will be soon.
