The AirPower wireless charging accessory from Apple was originally announced in 2017, pegged for a 2018 release, but has since missed its mark. However it seems that 2019 could be the year it finally launches because according to a tweet by ChargerLab, it seems that production of the device is already underway by Luxshare Precision.

It has been pointed out that Luxshare Precision is also the manufacturer for Apple’s AirPods and USB-C charging cables, so they do have a working relationship with Apple. Of course whether or not this tweet is true remains to be seen, but it does lineup with an earlier report where it was claimed that the issues Apple was having with the AirPower had been fixed, so moving it to production makes sense.

Apple has kept mum on the status of the AirPower for the longest time ever, so everything we’ve heard so far is mostly based on rumors. However some of these rumors also makes sense especially given the long delay of the device’s launch. Some had claimed that Apple was too ambitious with their plans for the AirPower which led to the device overheating, which was one of the main reasons behind the delay.

We’re not sure how different the AirPower will be compared to regular wireless charging mats, and there is also the question of how much it will cost. Apple sometimes hosts events in the early part of the year to announce product refreshes, so maybe the AirPower’s availability could be announced then as well.
