The AirPower was supposed to be Apple’s answer to wireless charging. It would have been a charging mat capable of wirelessly charging multiple devices and multiple device types, whether it be the iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods, but alas, due to technical issues, the device never came to be and was ultimately cancelled.

However, in a video posted on Twitter by Giulio Zompetti, he has shown off what is apparently a working prototype of the AirPower in action charging an iPhone. It shows an iPhone being charged on the device along with an animation to indicate that it is being charged on the AirPower.

The device looks a bit rough around the edges but since it’s a prototype, it is to be expected. Zompetti has been known for collecting rare Apple devices and prototypes, so for him to get his hands on the AirPower shouldn’t really be too surprising.

We’re not sure if there are plans for Apple to eventually return to the AirPower project, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the answer is yes. A couple of months ago, Gurman stated that Apple is apparently still exploring the idea of an inductive charging mat, although if or when such a device will make its debut is still unclear.
