The Super Smash Bros franchise has typically drawn from Nintendo’s own franchises and also games that are popular on its platform, but we have also seen how it has pulled in character from other games. Now according to the latest rumors from Japanese website 5Channel (via Game Rant), we could be looking at some surprising additions.

According to the website, it seems that in the upcoming DLCs for the game, we can expect to see the protagonist from Doom and Steve from Minecraft. It also mentions Erdrick from Dragon Quest, and Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. Recently a datamine of the game revealed some codenames for the DLC characters.

It was speculated back then that the codenames referred to Dragon Quest, Persona 5, and the Piranha Plant from Mario. We’re not sure if the most recent rumor are additional characters we can expect, or if the previously discovered codenames and who they might have been referring to were wrong.

Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but Doom and Minecraft would certainly be interesting additions, but not that surprising given that both Doom and Minecraft were launched on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo is also rumored to be planning a Nintendo Direct presentation next week, so maybe we’ll find out more then.
