Recently it was confirmed that Titanfall 3 was not in the works and we’re sure it was a bit of a bummer for fans of the franchise. Instead Respawn decided to release Apex Legends, a Titanfall spinoff with a battle royale theme. However it turns out that Apex Legends won’t be the only Titanfall spinoff we can expect this year.

During EA’s earnings call, the company’s CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that there will be another Titanfall-based game that will be released later this year. According to Wilson, “As the live service evolves. Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe. More to come on that in the months ahead.”

It is unclear what “premium” means and what kind of “twist” we might be able to expect, but if you were hoping for it to be a game in the veins of past Titanfall releases, you might be disappointed because it definitely doesn’t sound like it. In fact it’s actually kind of funny how EA and Respawn are approaching its Titanfall franchise, where they’re choosing to focus on spinoffs instead of on the main series which was very well received.

However financially speaking it might not be a bad idea. So far Apex Legends seems to be very popular out of the door where it racked up 1 million players in 8 hours. Of course whether they can maintain that momentum is a different story, but assuming they do, it could be a financial hit given the success we’ve seen in other battle royale games such as Epic’s Fortnite.
