With Tesla unveiling an affordable SUV a few days ago, Fisker has now announced that it’s going to build a similar electric SUV as well. The company has said that this SUV will be priced under $40,000 and will have some advantages over its rivals. This includes greater range compared to the base Model Y variant.

Fisker is aiming to achieve a 300 mile range on the standard variant of its electric SUV with an 80kWh battery compared to the 230 miles of range customers will get with the standard Model Y. Fisker’s vehicle will also have a radar on the grill and the ability to enjoy an “extended open-air atmosphere” with just the press of a button. The company will also offer optional extras such as all-wheel drive and dual motors.

People who are interested in seeing what the company has to offer will have to wait. Fisker doesn’t expect to have a drivable prototype of the vehicle ready before the end of this year. This means that a production model will most likely not be ready until 2021.

So expect deliveries to begin in the second half of 2021 if there are no delays. That’s also when Tesla is looking to start deliveries of the Model Y.
