According to earlier rumors, Nintendo could actually be planning on launching a new Nintendo Switch console later this year. Now according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, it seems that we might expect more than just one Nintendo Switch console this year, and that we could actually be getting two.

The report claims that Nintendo could be following a similar strategy to Microsoft’s, where there have been rumors that Microsoft could have at least two Xbox consoles in the works. One of the Switch models is rumored to be an “enhanced” model that will be aimed at more hardcore gamers, although it still won’t be as powerful compared to the PS4 Pro or the Xbox One X.

The other Switch model is said to be a cheaper model aimed at casual gamers and where it could potentially act as a successor to its 3DS handheld console. What’s interesting about this report is that Nintendo had previously denied that they had a successor to the Switch in the works.

Also Nintendo had also previously stated that they had no plans to replace its 3DS handheld with the Switch, despite the fact that the Switch can be played in handheld mode. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but Nintendo has been surprising us as of late, such as landing themselves a copy of Cuphead which was previously an exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox platform.
