Google Assistant isn’t just present in Android TV-powered smart TVs. It’s also available on third-party platforms such as the recent smart TVs from LG. So while Assistant is understandably the most capable on Google’s own platforms, it works well on others as well. Those who own such a device will now be happy to find out that Google Assistant has picked up support for Italian and Japanese on devices that aren’t on the Android TV platform.

A support page update on Google’s website confirms that the Assistant on TVs that don’t run Android TV can now speak in Italian and Japanese as well. It previously supported five languages which include English, French, German, Korean, and Spanish.

On Android TVs, the Google Assistant supports Indonesian Portuguese (Brazilian) in addition to the aforementioned languages. The company periodically adds support for additional languages as it improves Assistant’s capabilities on smart TVs.

Google is doing a good job of increasing the language support for its digital personal assistant on third-party platforms. This way users aren’t just forced to conversate with Assistant in English. It does have some major languages covered. The support page also mentions that Assistant will be updated with support for more languages in the future.
