These days, our smartphone prices are getting more and more expensive to the point where mid-range handsets are starting to look like pretty good alternatives. This could be the reason why Apple’s iPhone XR is doing so well, because even though at a starting price of $749 isn’t exactly cheap, it is still several hundred dollars cheaper than the iPhone XS and XS Max models.

It is also not surprising to learn that the iPhone XR dominated smartphone shipments in the first half of 2019, where according to analysts at IHS Market, they found that for the first half of the year, the iPhone XR actually shipped 26.9 million units. The phone in second place is actually the Samsung Galaxy A10 which only managed half the iPhone XR at 13.4 million (although overall Samsung did end up shipping more than Apple).

As for the flagship iPhones, the iPhone XS Max only managed 9.6 million, placing it in ninth place. This is actually not the first time we’re hearing about the iPhone XR’s dominance. Previously, it was reported that the handset actually accounted for 39% of iPhone sales back in December 2018.

These new figures seem to confirm that it is doing much better than the flagship iPhones. Apple is expected to refresh the iPhone XR tomorrow where it could come with upgraded RAM and cameras.
