The wearable tech industry is a pretty crowded one and Fitbit has been an established player for quite a while now. However, it seems that maybe the company wasn’t doing as well as they would like because back in September, we have heard rumors that Fitbit could actually be looking to sell itself.

Now according to a report from Reuters, it seems that Fitbit could have found itself a potential buyer in the form of Alphabet, Google’s parent company. The report claims that both companies are apparently in negotiations which could see Alphabet buy the company, although it notes that nothing has been confirmed yet and that there is no guarantee that it will go through.

It will be interesting if it were true as we could finally start to see Google-made fitness trackers and wearables. There have been rumors that Google could be looking to launch its own brand of smartwatches, but that has yet to be officially confirmed, although we imagine that by buying Fitbit, it could help Google realize those ambitions.

Alternatively, Alphabet could keep Fitbit as it is and continue to churn out Fitbit-branded products, much like Nest, which to this date continues to make products under the Nest brand.  Take this report with a grain of salt for now and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information if and when it surfaces.
