Earbuds are typically designed to go inside of your ear where it pipes music through. This has been pretty much the standard for as long as we can remember, but it seems that Bose is trying something different with their new Bose Sport Open Earbuds where instead of going in your ear, it sits above it.

The reason for this is because these earbuds are designed for those who enjoy an active lifestyle, like working out at a gym, going for a jog in the park, and so on. The idea is that by placing the earbuds above your ears, it will allow environmental sounds to be heard more naturally, which might be important if you’re trying to stay aware of your surroundings.

While we’ve seen earbuds and headphones offer pass-through features, Bose claims that this design will be more natural sounding, and we suppose we have to agree. We can’t speak to the quality of the audio since it isn’t being directly sent into your ear, but if you think that these features might be useful to you, then maybe you should give them a try in a store before purchasing them.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds are designed to be true wireless earbuds which means that they’re completely free of any cables or wires. Bose claims that they will last 8 hours on a full charge, but oddly enough unlike other true wireless earbuds we’ve seen, they do not come with a charging case and need to be charged on a charging dock (included). They are priced at $200 and can be pre-ordered from Bose’s website.
