Back in March, Apple announced the inevitable – the HomePod would be discontinued. The company did state that any remaining units would still be available for purchase, so if for whatever reason you want one, you’ll be able to buy one if there are still units in stock. Turns out that Apple might be having a hard time clearing out their shelves.

It has been reported that it has been about a month since the HomePod was officially discontinued, but Apple is still having units available for purchase. What’s even more shocking is that Apple might actually not have sold that many units to begin with, where according to YouTuber DetroitBORG, the model he recently purchased is the one from the launch stock dating three years ago!

Based on this, it’s not surprising that Apple has opted to discontinue the speaker. While we get Apple’s intentions at attempting to create a set of speakers aimed at those with more discerning tastes, the fact is that it found itself in a bit of an awkward spot. This is because it wasn’t necessarily good enough to be considered audiophile grade, but yet was priced too high for the average consumer.

Apple is said to be having greater success with the HomePod mini, which is cheaper and pretty much gets the job done. There have been rumors claiming that Apple might be considering other form factors for the HomePod for the future, but for now, the HomePod is still available in case you want it.
