Microsoft is looking to bring its xCloud game streaming service to various platforms, even iOS which is impressive given how restrictive Apple has been with regards to game streaming. This has led to some to wonder if maybe Microsoft could also bring xCloud onto competing gaming consoles, like that of the Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately for gamers, that will be a no-go. This is according to Astrics Advisory Japan founder David Gibson who tweeted that he was told by Nintendo that they will not be putting other game streaming services on the Switch. It is possible that maybe down the road, Microsoft and Nintendo could forge a partnership that would change that, but for now, don’t count on it.

Interestingly enough, Nintendo is no stranger when it comes to streaming services though. A few years ago, when Capcom announced that Resident Evil 7 would be coming to the Switch, they announced that it would be only available by streaming it from Capcom’s servers to your console. This means that Nintendo isn’t closed to the idea of a streaming service, although maybe not one from a competitor.

Technically you could get around this restriction by modding the Switch and having it run Android, and in turn it would also allow the console to use Microsoft’s xCloud, but we don’t really recommend modding your Switch in the first place.
