Netflix is a streaming service which means that if you wanted to watch its shows, you would need an internet connection. The company knows that sometimes an internet connection isn’t always available, and even then, it might not be fast enough, which is why they allow users to download shows for offline viewing.This usually relies on you having to complete the download before watching, but in case you can’t for whatever reason, don’t worry. The company has announced that they will be rolling out a feature for its Android app in the form of partial downloads. This means that even if the download isn’t complete, you’ll still be able to watch your shows up to a certain point where the download can complete or just keep watching by streaming.
“That’s why we’ve improved the Netflix download experience so you can now start watching The Mitchells vs The Machines or the next episode of Luis Miguel – The Series even if it hasn’t completed downloading. Once you’ve regained a strong enough connection, you can choose to finish the download and keep watching — avoiding those surprise notices that you’ve gone over your data limits.”
This is actually kind of useful, especially in emerging markets where internet connections might not be particularly stable or fast, so at least this way people can still get their dose of entertainment, even if it’s not complete. Right now the feature is available on Android and Netflix is expected to start testing it on iOS next month.
