So we know that in recent times, IKEA has been updating its catalogue to include smarter furniture and appliances to keep up with the times. In fact, the company recently announced their plans to globally launch a series of gaming related furniture and accessories. Now it looks like their latest product comes in the form of a wireless charger.

But isn’t that common? Doesn’t IKEA already have wireless chargers? They do, but with the Sjömärke, this $39.99 wireless charger is designed to make wireless charging more integrated into furniture retroactively. It can be screwed and mounted beneath a table which means that you can keep unsightly charging mats and cables out of sight.

It is capable of working through plastic or wood, and if you don’t have the tools, you can mount it using double-sided tape. Of course, it won’t work with ALL tables as it needs to be thin enough for the wireless frequencies to pass through. According to IKEA, your table needs to be anywhere between 8mm to 22mm thick for it to work, so do keep that in mind.

It’s actually pretty cool, but given that it is a rather basic wireless charger, don’t expect speeds of more than 5W, so if you need a fast charging system, this isn’t it. However, if you want something that’s clever and convenient, then this might be worth your consideration.
