Usually if you’re looking for a headphone amp, how it works is that the amp connects to your headphones, and the amp also then connects to your music source, whether it be your laptop, desktop, and so on. However, the folks over at Astell & Kern have unveiled a rather interesting gadget at CES 2022.

Dubbed the Acro CA1000, this is both a music player and headphone amp combined. This means that you can store your music in it and bring it with you, so the only thing you really only need to connect are your headphones.

What’s pretty cool about it is that it features a digital music player that’s actually integrated into the device itself. This music player is like one of those dedicated music players from the iPod days, except it will feature a 4.1-inch touchscreen display that you can lift up and place at an angle so you can easily browse your library of songs.

The Acro CA1000 comes with 256GB of onboard storage that can be expanded up to 1TB via microSD, and it also supports native DSD512 and 32bit/384 kHz playback, thanks to its Quad ES9068AS DAC. The unit also features a variety of headphone ports for various jack sizes, such as balanced 2.5mm and 4.4mm ports, and unbalanced 3.5mm and 6.35mm ports.

There will also be support for wireless connectivity where you can pair it with a phone via the BT Sink function. The Acro CA1000 comes with an 8,400mAh battery that is good for 10.5 hours, but it also supports wired use if you’re at home and don’t need the portability. The Acro CA1000 won’t come cheap though, with a price tag of a whopping $2,100 when it goes on sale this February.
