Audio-Technica has officially launched the ATH-AL5NC, a wireless headset that combines two typically separate design features: an open-back acoustic structure and active noise cancellation (ANC). Targeted at both critical audiophiles and competitive gamers, the model provides an expansive soundstage and thermal ventilation while mitigating background ambient distractions.
To deliver high-resolution playback, the headphones feature custom 53 mm drivers and support the high-bandwidth LDAC codec, enabling high-resolution music streaming across a broad frequency spectrum from 20 Hz to 40 kHz. Wireless connectivity is managed through Bluetooth 5.3, complemented by multipoint pairing capabilities that let users switch seamlessly between a computer and a mobile smartphone without manual reconnecting.
The signature open-back construction promotes natural passive airflow, preventing heat buildup around the ears during extended wear sessions. Because open designs inherently permit ambient sound entry and audio leakage, the manufacturer paired the hybrid active noise cancelling system with a dedicated sound leakage prevention mode. While noise reduction performance is inherently more moderate than fully closed-back alternatives, the configuration effectively dampens persistent, low-frequency home or office noise.
For interactive gaming applications, an integrated low-latency mode minimizes transmission lag. Voice capture is handled by an internal MEMS microphone operating between 50 Hz and 10 kHz, alongside an included 1.2-meter detachable cable featuring an inline condenser microphone for wired connections to dedicated sound cards, gaming consoles, or PC setups.
Despite maintaining a lightweight frame of 240 grams, the device achieves up to 50 hours of continuous battery playback with active noise cancellation engaged. A complete recharge requires approximately 3.5 hours, though an integrated quick-charge feature provides up to eight additional hours of operation following a 15-minute charge.
