Sony has announced two new wireless gaming headsets designed for the PS5, smartphones, and PCs: the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge. The new models follow the Pulse Elite and focus on studio-inspired audio, improved connectivity, and features designed to enhance gaming immersion.
Both headsets use planar magnetic drivers, a technology associated with professional audio equipment and inherited from Sony’s acquisition of Audeze. Compared with conventional dynamic drivers, planar magnetic technology is designed to provide greater audio precision and separation. This can be particularly useful in competitive games, where accurately identifying the direction of footsteps, gunfire, and other sounds is important.
Sony has also increased the size of the drivers compared with the previous Pulse Elite, although the company has not yet revealed their exact dimensions. The larger drivers are intended to provide stronger bass while maintaining audio clarity.
The standard Pulse uses four magnets per driver, while the premium Pulse Edge doubles that number to eight magnets per planar driver. Sony says this configuration delivers additional improvements in detail, sound quality, and bass performance.
The Pulse Edge also includes several premium features. These include active noise cancellation (ANC), a detachable boom microphone, and a built-in microphone that remains available when the boom is removed. Users can also adjust the balance between game and chat audio directly from the headset when using a PS5. The package includes upgraded materials and a carrying case.

For connectivity, both models support PlayStation Link, enabling lossless, low-latency audio. Users can quickly switch between a PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac, while Bluetooth connectivity allows simultaneous pairing with smartphones and tablets.
The headsets feature rotating earcups for easier transportation and improved comfort. Sony also says AI-powered microphone technology helps improve noise rejection. Both models will be available in White and Midnight Black finishes.
The PlayStation Pulse is scheduled to launch in selected markets toward the end of 2026, ahead of the holiday season. The Pulse Edge is expected in early 2027. Sony has not yet announced pricing, pre-order dates, or specific availability.
